What is Neurotoxin?

Neurotoxin Pre/Post Care Instructions
To ensure optimal results and minimize any potential side effects, it's important to follow these guidelines before and after your neurotoxin treatment:
Before Your Appointment:
- In the week leading up to your appointment, avoid blood-thinning medications like Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Aleve, as well as supplements like Vitamin E and Fish Oil. This will help reduce the chance of bruising. Always consult your doctor before discontinuing any prescribed medications.
- Limit alcohol consumption for 48-72 hours before your treatment to further minimize bruising.
- Consider taking Bromelain and Arnica tablets 7-10 days before your appointment, as these can help reduce bruising.
- It's crucial to inform your provider about any medical conditions, medications, allergies, or previous cosmetic treatments you've had, especially any history of adverse reactions to injections.
- If you are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment, you will need to wait until you have been in remission for at least 6 months before receiving neurotoxin injections.
After Your Treatment:
- Make sure to sit upright for 4 hours following injections.
- For the first 24 hours after your injections, avoid strenuous exercise and refrain from touching or massaging the treated areas.
- While bruising is generally uncommon, it can occur and typically resolves within 14 days.
- It takes about 14 days for the full effects to become visible, although you may notice some initial improvement within a few days.
- Avoid applying makeup for 24 hours after your treatment, unless it is mineral-based.
- You can wash your face as usual, but avoid using facial cleansing brushes for the first 24 hours.
Preventative, Long-Lasting Care
Botox and Dysport are the two most popular brands of neurotoxin. Although they are derived from the same protein, there are subtle differences. Dysport tends to work a bit faster, but both are highly effective.
